Bringing together natural specimens, crystals, and a polished mineral egg, the highlights of this set include an apatite and hyalite opal specimen from Pakistan, brilliantly green-fluorescent opal from British Columbia, and a baratovite combination specimen from Tajikistan with striking blue and pink-red fluorescent areas. A transparent high quality selenite crystal from Willow Creek, Alberta, displays distinctive blue hourglass fluorescence and a beautiful afterglow once the UV light is switched off. The photographs compare the exact set under ordinary light, longwave, midwave, and shortwave UV, along with phosphorescence. Different wavelengths reveal different colors and intensities, making this an engaging collection for fluorescent mineral enthusiasts and anyone building a varied UV mineral display. Specimens included, corresponding to the lettered photograph: You will receive the exact nine specimens pictured with associated labels. Fluorescence varies with the UV wavelength and lamp used; a longwave lamp alone will not reproduce every color shown in the shortwave photographs. Ex. Liebetrau Collection This specimen originates from the renowned collection of Albert M. “Al” and Suzanne “Sue” Liebetrau, who spent more than six decades assembling a world-class collection of fine minerals from around the globe. Particularly celebrated for their exceptional fluorescent minerals, the Liebetraus built what has been described as one of the great fluorescent mineral collections in the United States, with specimens selected for quality, rarity, aesthetics, and locality significance.
