Looking for a Collioure from the heights? This vintage is crafted by Domaine de la Rectorie in Banyuls-sur-Mer, on the Vermeille coast. Brothers Marc and Thierry Parcé have been bottling their wine there since 1984. "Montagne" (Mountain) lives up to its name: it is born from old vines planted between 200 and 400 meters above sea level on north-facing schist slopes. Mourvèdre leads the blend, accompanied by Grenache Noir, Carignan, and a touch of Counoise. The grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed. They macerate for twenty days, and the wine is then aged for 14 months in barrels. If you enjoy Bandol reds, where Mourvèdre is king, you will be on familiar ground. The nose opens with ripe fruit, spices, and garrigue. The palate is well-structured, with present yet subtle tannins. The finish is long, with a peppery note. At the table, it pairs well with roast lamb, red meat in sauce, or seasonal game.
