Antique, French, Belle Époque citrine and diamond cluster engagement ring

Provenance Original to c.1910, this French Belle Époque cluster ring features open-work that centres on an oval citrine with a soft primrose yellow hue. The citrine boasts exceptional clarity and is rub-over set in an open-back setting, finished with polished edges. The open-work border leads to a cluster set with tiny rose-cut diamonds, grain-set and bordered by millegrain edges. The triangular facets of each rose-cut diamond catch the light beautifully and glow under light. The gallery features fine open piercing and the shoulders taper to a solid gold band. The ring's profile is comfortably low on the finger. I love that this design pre-dates the Art Deco target ring, it is an early example of jewellers playing around with the possibilities of platinum - and what a gorgeous ring it is!
