ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP This four-week Zoom workshop covers the full construction, plus an optional fitting hack to get a closer fit through the back with an invisible side zipper. Invisible zips aren't used in many patterns these days, and once you've sewn one you can use it on skirts, dresses and pants. WHAT YOU’LL MAKE The Pietra Pants & Shorts are the best of both worlds; a flat front, high-waisted silhouette with the comfort of an elastic waist in the back. Featuring lengthening panels in the front with slanted hip pockets and a hidden waist stay, they are so comfortable you'll never want to take them off. Choose between four leg styles: a wide leg in floor-skimming or cropped length (View A), a slim and tapered leg (View B), or gently flared shorts (View C). WHAT YOU’LL LEARN Reading and working from a garment pattern Choosing your size and grading between sizes Applying fusible interfacing Grading seams, understitching and clean seam finishes (serger, zigzag or French seams) Stitching in the ditch Sewing and pressing curved seams Slanted hip pockets Facings for a clean waist finish Elastic waistband casings Double-fold hems Optional: reducing the back waist for fit, and installing an invisible zipper WHAT YOU’LL GET 6 hours of live online sewing instruction across 3 Saturday morning sessions Multi-camera demos - top-down, machine-level, and table view, so you see exactly what’s happening at every step Video replay access to every session, with detailed written notes for each one A dedicated online workshop space for sharing progress, asking questions, and connecting with fellow students Lifetime access to all Pietra Pants replays, notes, and resources A NOTE ON FIT We'll cover fit and sizing in the first session. The elastic back makes the Pietra very forgiving, but it can feel roomy through the back. If you'd like a closer fit, we'll show you a simple adjustment that removes some of the back waist, paired with an invisible side zipper so the pants still go on easily. Complex fitting is beyond what we can cover thoroughly on Zoom, but you'll leave the first session knowing your size and what adjustments to make before you cut.
