Vintage Mens 1950s Bespoke Tweed Suit 2 Piece Single Breasted Green Brown Barleycorn Wool 42"

A very nice vintage 1950s two-piece suit, bespoke West End tailored by 'Hawes & Curtis' in 1956 from heavyweight wool tweed fabric in a mini-barleycorn weave in green, brown & natural mixture resulting in a drab light brown shade. Single-breasted 3 button jacket with medium padded shoulders, broad notch lapels, fitted waist, centre vent, welted chest & lower flap hand & ticket pockets, cuffs with 2 working of 4 buttons; lined in brownish alpaca with off-white striped sleeve linings. Trousers are high rise, full-cut & wide in the leg, with double inward pleats, side clamp buckle adjusters, side slip & 1 rear pocket, button fly & unusual double-button internal bearer, turn-ups. Size: Suggested 42" Regular, shown on a size 38 mannequin - please check measurements below. All measurements are external, taken with the garment laid flat, to be doubled where appropriate for circumference (with approx. metric equivalent): Jacket Chest - armpit to armpit: 23 1/2" (59.5cm) Shoulder to shoulder: 19" (48cm) Shoulder to cuff: 24 1/2" (62cm) Armpit to cuff: 16" (41cm) Waist: 21 1/2" (54.5cm) Back length - base of collar to hem: 32" (81cm) Trouser waist: 17” (43cm) - about 2 3/4" to let out Inside leg: 30" (76cm) - nothing to let down without using the turn ups Outside leg: 42 1/2" (108cm) Rise - crotch seam to top of waistband: 15" (38cm) Leg width at hem: 9" (23cm) Condition: In very good condition with light overall & some signs of use: The jacket has a slightly darker patina across the shoulders (not very apparent when worn - the flat shots make it look worse than it is in person) - a faint brownish mark on the inner left cuff (arrowed) - the middle button is a near-match old replacement, the middle buttonhole has been repaired & the other 2 are a bit frayed - the lining has a few scuffs, snags, small holes & watermarks. The trousers have some discolouration, stains & wear to the pocket bags & linings - the back seam has probably been taken in -the inside leg seam has been taken in by about 3/4" at some point; the majority of the fabric remains to let them back out but it has been slightly clipped at the top. Has been thoroughly steamed & brushed prior to listing.
