Ao-Ido Chawan "Gento" by Jonghun Kim

An Ao-Ido Chawan by Jonghoon Kim, a ceramic artist based in Gyeonggi-do, Korea. Beneath the softly blue-tinged white glaze, a subtle reddish warmth from the clay body shows through, while an exceptionally fine network of crazing spreads densely across the entire surface. The crazing varies in density and character from place to place, giving remarkable depth to the otherwise quiet glaze. One of the bowl’s most captivating qualities is the faint blue tone that seems to emerge only when it catches the light. Inspired by this mysterious, almost ethereal color, the chawan was given the poetic name “Gento” (玄兎). The form opens naturally with a refined sense of balance, while pronounced white kairagi develops around the foot, creating a powerful contrast with the delicate crazing across the body.
