Hermès Slim d'Hermès Squelette Lune 39.5mm One of the most refreshing releases in the past 7 years, the Slim d’Hermès series deserves your attention. While some are quick to dismiss so-called 'fashion' brands, the fact is that companies like Hermes and Bulgari are making some of the most interesting pieces on the market today, and their eye for visual design is at a level above most Swiss companies. Combine that with some pretty serious technical specs and they're absolutely worthy of sitting with the established greats. While we love all of the Slim d’Hermès series, this is the pinnacle. Known as the Squelette Lune, it is based around the 39.5mm Slim case which measures in at a scant 8.8mm in thickness and is made of micro-blasted matte grey titanium. This is then surrounded by a platinum bezel, and a white gold crown. This mix of industrial and luxurious is absolutely inspired, and perfectly suits the aesthetic of the rest of the components of this watch, and a shining example of why we believe these luxury houses do design better than anyone else. Usually we'd move on to the dial here, but given this is an open worked watch, it's the movement that we'll focus on. It's made by Vaucher, of which Hermes is a 25% owner, a company which also supplies Richard Mille, Parmigiani (a majority owner), AP and Kikuchi Nakagawa amongst others, and are absolutely top-tier. In this spec it is known as the caliber H1953, and is an automatic micro-rotor movement with moonphase complication. The bridges and plates have been opened up, and while this can sometimes look fussy, not a bit of that here. The design is completely harmonious, aided by the use of varying shades of grey and silver throughout, complimenting the case and bezel, with only the PVD blue hands and photo-realistic moonphase display adding colour. The visual treat of seeing the gears meshing, and the subtle tone changes of the plates and bridges with their beveled edge, means it never gets boring while also not being ostentatious or too shiny. It really is an exercise in cohesion, as you'd expect of Hermès. The Slim d'Hermès is in part so recognisable by the use of the specialised font by Philippe Apeloig (one of the coolest fonts we've ever seen used on a watch), and despite there not being a dial to speak of, it is still present and correct as it has been used on the chapter ring for the hours and minutes. One of the major plus' of buying a Hermes watch is the Hermes strap, and this reference is fitted with a matte grey 'gator with Hermes tang buckle in titanium that is unbelievably supple, and suits the watch to a tee. This particular piece was first sold at a Hermès Boutique in Shanghai in 2024 and presents in TZ 'Near Mint' condition. No marks that we can see other than the lightest of rub marks from being placed on its side visible under macro photography, with the bezel showing very light hairlines. The strap is also in fabulous condition, and has clearly been worn sparingly. Please see images for full condition details. Currently keeping time at about +7 secs per day at 290 degrees of amplitude, and operating as it should as you'd expect of such a young watch. Comes with outer box, inner box, warranty booklet, instruction manual, cleaning cloth, hang tag and original purchase receipt. RRP is $48,050 AUD. This is an absolute bargain a the asking price, and you will not find a better, or more elegant, watch for the money.
