Blue Shimeji Mushroom Grow Kit IMPORTANT: Ideal Fruiting Temperature: 10–20°C Mushrooms will have significant problems or even fail to grow if temperatures exceed 22°C regularly or for more than very short periods of time. Quick Facts Difficulty Level: Beginner Growth Speed: First harvest in 7–14 days Flushes: Typically 2–3 under proper care, more or less depending on you! Kit Includes: Pre-colonized, ready-to-fruit Blue Shimeji block Please note: Blue Shimeji is a small-fruiting strain of blue oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus), named for its clustered habit and size rather than its species. It is not botanically related to traditional Japanese shimeji (Hypsizygus or Lyophyllum). We have used this name to keep it in line with our spawn and genetic supplier Aussie Mushroom Supplies You can find their information here in regards to this variety. Farm-Fresh & High-Yield Guarantee Always Fresh: Our blocks are never “old stock.” They’re pulled weekly from active crop lines grown for over 150 top restaurants throughout W.A. Our primary focus is growing wholesale mushrooms—kits are simply taken from these same crop lines. Multiple crops every week. We have the best kits because our focus is not on kits! Highest Yields in Australia: If you find another kit that beats ours under the same conditions, we’ll refund both orders—and offer you a job! Sustainably Made: Crafted from 100% West Australian hardwood sawdust, W.A. legume hulls, and W.A. wheat bran—sterilized and inoculated by our expert team in W.A. Flavour & Culinary Tips Flavour Profile: Delicate and faintly anise-sweet when young, developing a richer, savoury depth once cooked. Firm bite that holds its shape better than standard oysters, with a subtle seafood-like note that pairs naturally with butter, miso, and soy. Recipe Ideas: Pan-fried hard in a dry pan first, then finished with butter and thyme, the high heat brings out a crisp, almost scallop-like edge. Tossed through ramen, udon, or laksa right at the end so they keep their texture in the broth. Roasted in clusters with sesame oil, ginger, and a splash of mirin for a quick side. Battered and flash-fried for karaage-style mushroom bites. Pro Tip: Cook hot and don't crowd the pan, Blue Shimiji release less water than larger oysters and reward a proper sear. Care & Growing Instructions Start: The kits are vigorous as they are our farm crops, they need to be started once received, storing them in the fridge can delay the starting process 1-2 weeks. Unbox & Position: Place the kit in a well-ventilated area with indirect light. Mist Daily: Keep the block humid with a light water spray (avoid direct sunlight or strong drafts). Maintain Temperature: Aim for 10–20°C; if it’s hotter, you're going to have serious issues, move the kit to a cooler spot or air-conditioned space. Watch Them Grow: Tiny “pins” will appear within about a week. Harvest when caps are fully formed but before they flatten out. More Help: Visit our instructions below for detailed steps and troubleshooting. If you would like printed instruction rather than digital ones with your order, please let us know in the order notes when placing your order. Why Choose Our Kits?
