Indigo Vat Dyeing with Joan Hudyncia (9/26/26 1:30 PM)

We will learn about the Indigo plant and how to prepare a gorgeous blue dye vat using dried leaves. Then on to dyeing fun with cotton scarves that we will sew, wrap, and/or twist to create an area of resistance to the dye. This is a combination of several traditional Japanese dyeing methods that the instructor learned in Kasuri weaving studios in and around Fukuoka, Japan. Students are welcome to bring a t-shirt or other small cloth to further experiment with if time allows.
