An opalotype is an antique photo on white milk glass. The process was first invented in 1857 and they more or less disappeared by the 1920s. It was never a very popular medium, so opalotypes are scarce. This is a very early example: The toddler’s clothes date to around the 1860s. Presented as found in its original velvet and glass shadow box. One condition issue: There is a very small crack to the glass in the top left corner. It would be possible to remove the original black tape that seals it shut in order to replace the glass, but the crack is so small and in such an inconspicuous place, I would simply leave it as is.
