Smoky, Serviceberry
(Amelanchier alnifolia) The most popular Saskatoon variety and the full-flavour standard against which other cultivars are judged. A prolific producer of large 1/2″ sweet saskatoon berries that have a high sugar to acid ratio. Reaches 8-12 feet at maturity. Blooms later than other cultivars helping to avoid late spring frosts. High suckering. Cold hardy to USDA Zone 3. Self-fertile – can produce fruit on its own.
