Karnataka Kowdhi - Commons (62" x 90")

This Kowdhi brings together cotton scraps from across Bengaluru’s garment sector into a patchwork front that is colourful and varied in texture. The reverse is a single piece of plain handloom fabric, and the two layers are held together with cotton thread quilting. It is medium-weight and suited to everyday use as a bedspread, a sofa throw, or a picnic mat. Size: 62 inches x 90 inches. Weight: 1800 grams. Colour: Multi-coloured front and brown back. This quilt has prevented 1.85 kilograms of textile waste from reaching landfills and represents over 76 hours of meticulous work by skilled women artisans in rural north Karnataka. The hidden costs of water contamination, energy waste, and environmental destruction far outweigh the cost of a mindfully made upcycled product. The fabrics in this quilt come from multiple sources, handloom and powerloom cotton saved from going to waste. We recommend eco dry cleaning for the first two washes.
