Adorable carved jade goldfish mounted as a brooch. The colour of the stone, a peachy orange with black mottling to the tail fins, is perfect for the fishy subject matter. "The Ryūkin (琉金) is a short deep-bodied fancy goldfish with a characteristic hump in the shoulder region. It was developed in China." [Wikipedia] This guy's just like my first pet, a goldfish named Hoju (I really liked The Simpsons: "Do you want to change your name to Homer Junior? The kids can call you Hoju"). Turns out that hoju, in Japanese, means "wish-fulfilling jewel" which is a beautiful instance of synchronicity. Era: Art Deco, circa 1920 Size: 2.4cm by 4.5cm Stone: Jade Marks: None, tested as silver Condition: Great antique condition.
