Powerhouse Chefs - Carbon and Wrought Iron
Forged from 52100 alloy steel, this chef's knife is ready to tackle nearly every task in the kitchen. 52100 steel is extremely durable and one of our favorite steels for its balance of sharpness, toughness, and hardness. Our brand new Powerhouse pattern of kitchen knives is named after the building we moved the knife shop into in late 2024. Serving as the original light and electric plant in Downtown Bloomington in the late 1880s, and transitioning to power the Bloomington Normal Streetcar system until the mid-40s. This three-piece set of knife patterns is designed as workhorse blades that will serve you well for years to come. This knife is ground with a beautifully thin edge, making it excellent for cutting and slicing. The gently sloping spine makes the tip needle-sharp and easy to index in the hand, while the gently curving edge creates a beautiful rocking blade for mincing. The blade has been blacked out and embellished with a portion of a Gothic-style rose window. The full tang handle is dressed in forged wrought iron scales. This places a great deal of weight in the hand, making the blade feel weightless. This wrought iron has been etched deeply to expose the grain of the metal and provides a great feel in the hand.
