Vintage 1940s .70 carat SI2/J Old European Cut solitaire engagement ring
A handsome two-tone 1940s diamond solitaire ring set with a lively .70 carat Old European Cut diamond. The diamond is set in a 14K white gold square head with neat and tidy photo-corner prongs. The diamond sparkles like mad with a sunburst pattern of old-world facets breaking light into a spectrum of colors. The SI2 clarity grade is due to the position of a feather near the center of the stone, but this characteristic is not visible with the naked eye nor does it affect brightness. The shoulders have volute details and an upswept, regal appearance. Close inspection reveals a shift in metal tone between the shoulders and lower shank, leading me to believe that the ring was re-shanked at some point - probably to repair a thinning band. The repair is very well done and this ring is ready for another 80 years of life and love! This ring comes with a jewelry appraisal for insurance/replacement. The appraisal is set at $4600.
