Luba
Nice name, sounds fun, but what does it actually mean? I decided to Google it. Turns out Luba is a popular girl’s name in Eastern Europe. It all clicked for me right away: grower Gijs Burger hadn’t been able to offer me his Luba varieties for years because they were all sold to tulip growers in Eastern Europe. He jokingly called it a Russian tulip. I can understand why—they love big, sturdy tulips with bright colors over there. This year, Gijs finally has enough, and we’re able to add her to the Fluwel online store. I’m thrilled—Luba is a strikingly beautiful, large tulip that really holds her own in the garden.
