Agarwood - 伽羅 Kyara from Japan
Kyara (伽羅) or Kynam, is the rarest and most precious grade of agarwood in Japanese Kōdō. It is said that one requires three lifetimes of accumulated merit or virtue to have the opportunity to smell it. For this reason, it has long been treasured and collected by noble families and monks in Japan. Over time, such rare pieces occasionally pass down through generations, finding their way into private auctions or renowned incense houses such as Yamadamatsu Incense-wood (山田松香木店) or Shōeidō (松栄堂). We are eternally grateful to Yamada-san for receiving this age-old collection. The aged, yellowed wrapping paper carries the traces of time — centuries of age wearing down upon it. Yet even at room temperature, the Kyara continues to release a rich and captivating aroma, quietly and effortlessly spreading to the far corners of the room, as if it were a realm devoted entirely to the spirit of agarwood. It's a great honor to have this opportunity to share with you, and we hope you will preserve it well and pass it on to the next generation.
