Silver and Jewel-Mounted Hungarian Parade Saber, Last Quarter 19th C
Ornate and impressive saber featuring silver alloy repousse’ hilt forming short, straight quillons with double langets and curved handle of hexagonal section, displaying floral and geometric decoration and mounted with semi-precious stones. Unmarked 30 1/4″ (76.8 cm) flat, curved blade. Wood scabbard with two carry rings, covered with green velvet with gold stitching, the long throat, middle band, and drag all of repousse’ silver and semi-precious gems decorated ensuite with sword hilt. Overall length 35 3/8″ (89.9 cm), not icluding scabbard. Not intended for fighting, this decorative saber was intended to impress and was probably made for a high-ranking magnate or diplomat.
