This Mauchline Ware umbrella shaped needle holder has an image labeled “Spitzberg” and was made in Scotland, likely in the late 1800s to early 1900s. It opens to store needles inside. The two sections fit together as they should and separate easily for use. It is in very good condition with light, age-appropriate wear. The transfer image remains clear and the wood has a nice patina. Measures about 6" long. Mauchline Ware is so named because it was produced in or near a small town called Mauchline in Scotland. It is made of sycamore and often had transfer photos of popular tourist destinations. It was produced from the mid 1800’s until 1933 when the last Mauchline Ware factory was destroyed by fire. Featured item only included in the sale, other items are my photo helpers :-)
