Cara Guthrie cup
These beautiful hand-thrown ceramic cups come from an exhibition called Production, by potter Cara Guthrie. Each unique cup is individually numbered between 1 and 1800. After the exhibition closed, Cara gifted the cups to Amma to sell to raise funds. Production is a visual representation of the work required to sustain a new life, in a society where a perpetual cost of living crisis, combined with a diminishing maternity allowance, is making the ‘breast is best’ mantra impossible for most. In Production, 1800 porcelain cups represent the 1800 hours a mother is calculated to breastfeed a baby in the first year of their life. A full time job is 1960 hours. ** Please contact us if you would like a cup with a specific number **All images are © Murray Orr
