Sugar Ann Snap Pea is an award-winning heirloom variety that is widely regarded as one of the best early snap peas for home gardens, earning the prestigious All-America Selections award in 1984. The plants produce compact, dwarf vines that reach about 2 feet tall with a non-climbing growth habit that does not require any trellising or support. Despite their small stature, they are incredibly productive, setting an abundant harvest of crisp, medium-green pods measuring 2 to 3 inches long. The pods mature in a concentrated set with one to two pods per node, making for efficient and satisfying harvesting. The flavor is sweet, juicy, and vivacious with a satisfying crunch that makes Sugar Ann one of the most snackable vegetables you can grow. The pods are delicious eaten fresh right off the vine, tossed into salads, steamed, or used in stir-fries. They are also a superb freezing variety, holding their sweetness and texture remarkably well for year-round enjoyment. Sugar Ann is a cool-season crop that thrives in spring and early fall but does not tolerate hot weather. This makes it one of the first crops you can get into the ground each season, as the seeds will germinate in soil temperatures as low as 41°F. The plants are fast growers that mature exceptionally early at just 51 to 55 days, giving you one of the quickest harvests in the garden. The compact size of Sugar Ann makes it an excellent choice for smaller garden spaces, raised beds, and containers. The plants show good resistance to common wilt, fusarium wilt, and powdery mildew. Plant in full sun with well-drained soil and provide consistent moisture during flowering for the best pod set. Our non-GMO seeds are open-pollinated, untreated, and provided in their natural state. Our non-GMO seeds are professionally treated with Thiram to prevent seed decay, damping-off, and seedling blight.
