This attractive student's bureau would be a much-admired and practical addition to the lounge, small study or student bedroom. The top has space for a small lamp or vase along with treasured ornaments or photographs. Below is a traditional bureau drop-down flap that lowers to rest on manually extended support arms, forming a stable writing surface. At the rear of this section is a set of cubby holes which are ideal for stationery and paperwork. Under the main flap is a full-width drawer above two fixed-position bookshelves, offering a useful amount of storage. Made largely of solid oak, this bureau has a plywood back panel, organiser shelves and drawer sections. The original handles and beautiful oak grain give this bureau plenty of visual appeal. There are many different shades in the wood and a few marks on the writing surface, giving this bureau lots of character. These are minor blemishes that you would expect to see in a period piece. The main flap has a crack running from side to side; however, this does not affect its structural integrity. Our restoration workshop has stripped and cleaned this bureau before applying a fresh matt lacquer that enhances the natural oak detail and also provides a good level of everyday protection. As with all lacquered wood furniture, care is required when placing hot or sharp items. The dimensions show the total height of this item and the depth with the lid closed, followed in brackets by the total depth and the height of the writing surface with the lid open and resting on the supports. One key is provided. This modest bureau will complement a range of modern and traditional settings and is sure to be a much-loved addition to the family home.
