William Itter 1969 “Discordant Shapes” Watercolor Painting

A 1969 watercolor painting titled Discordant Shapes by the American artist William Itter (1942-2025). This painting features colorful, biomorphic shapes lined up next to one another across a white background. Held in a black frame against a white mat, this piece is signed, dated, titled lower right. William Itter was an artist, philanthropist, award-winning art educator and collector, who made an impact on hundreds of students during his 35-year long tenure at Indiana University. His wife, Diane Itter, was also a painter, as well as a textile artist. After her passing, he opened the William and Diane Itter Object Study at the Eskenazi Museum of Art, where he donated his collection of art and memorabilia.
