The town has recently been designated as Scotland's official "Oyster Town", celebrating its connection to Loch Ryan’s wild native oyster beds along with its popular annual Oyster Festival held in September. The artwork features a number of significant or well-known buildings along with activities that are central to Stranraer's current and past identity - football, skiffies, the marina, the ferry to Ireland and curling to name but a few.
