Canada, Commonwealth. A Second War RCAF Winter Service Tunic of a Wireless Air Gunner
A lovely RCAF tunic of the second war in blue wool, single breasted with open drop fall collar. There are two breast pockets, each scalloped flap is closed with a single brass R.C.A.F button (additional snap closures on each corner of the flap) and two larger lower pockets with straight flaps, also closed by brass buttons. Each side of the tunic is secured closed by four large brass R.C.A.F buttons, with a thick belt with brass closure around the mid waist. Above the left breast pocket sits an embroidered WAG wing in multicoloured threads. Each of the sleeve shoulders bear a CANADA embroidered shoulder title, the cuffs are purposely designed without buttons and have Flying Officer rank stripes sewn upon them. The inside of the tunic comes with a blue rayon lining, while the sleeves are lined in light creme coloured rayon. There is a pocket on the right side of the chest which also bears the manufacturers label denoting “MONTAGUE BURTON” of New Oxford st. London and Princes St, Edinburg. The tunic measures 46 cm across the shoulders, 65 cm sleeve length, and 79 cm in total length, exhibiting light soiling to the interior lining, otherwise very minimal wear to the exterior, a tunic in extremely fine condition.
