Judge Henry Chapman Skinner brought apple seeds from a Newtown Pippin across the country by wagon in 1849. He planted thirteen seeds along Coyote Creek in San Jose. Only two seedlings survived. One became the Skinner's Seedling. The fruit was first shown at a local agricultural fair in September 1857 and later grown commercially in Northern California. Sweet with a brisk, sprightly subacid twist. Great for eating, baking, and juicing.
