Super Mal 2.0

The Super Mal Vers. 2.0 takes one of my longest-running and most proven designs into the 8–9 ft range, with a number of bespoke construction and fin options. Vers. 2.0 can be ordered with 2+1, 4+1, twin fin, quad or thruster configurations, allowing the board to be tuned to the surfer and the type of waves it will be ridden in. The Super Mal can be surfed like a shortboard, yet still has the smooth glide, forward trim and paddle power of a mal. It also offers distinctive custom stringer constructions: 4 Stringer 2 x cedar stringers positioned approximately at fin-box width, combined with 2 x black resin lines. 5 Stringer Central HD foam stringer, 2 x cedar stringers at fin-box width and 2 x black resin lines. These stringer configurations are offered for the connoisseur who appreciates the finer details of traditional custom board building. They can be combined with a range of other bespoke features and finishes through a direct custom order with Mitchell, creating a board that is genuinely individual. They are not simply cosmetic details, but part of the character, craftsmanship and identity of each Super Mal Vers. 2.0. I have been refining and evolving the Super Mal since the mid 1980s. Refinements in this model include its smooth, low central rocker, relaxed nose rocker and, in the longer sizes, slightly increased nose area for enhanced forward trim. I have surfed and shaped for well over 50 years, and I can say that this remains one of my all-time favourite designs. It has become an essential board in my own quiver and in those of many of my customers. It is an exceptional one-board option for travel. It will happily surf average everyday waves, but really comes alive when the swell turns up. I have taken mine to Bali and Sumatra and ridden it in everything from waist-high waves to well overhead conditions. It has never let me down. Beach breaks, point breaks, reef breaks — the Super Mal has the paddle power and glide to make surfing easy, with enough performance to carve and be pushed when the waves are good. The ultimate long mid-length all-rounder. It’s a lifetime board.
