Panadol Night 20 Tablets For Night Time Pain Relief Panadol Night tablets are a pharmacy medicine for the short-term relief of bedtime pain that makes it hard to get to sleep, such as headache, migraine, backache, muscle and rheumatic pain, toothache and period pain. Each tablet contains paracetamol 500mg, a painkiller, and diphenhydramine hydrochloride 25mg, an antihistamine that causes drowsiness. The pack contains 20 tablets. Panadol Night Pain tablets work differently from plain paracetamol. Because of the diphenhydramine, they cause sleepiness soon after a dose, so they are taken 20 minutes before bed and not during the day. They are for adults and children aged 16 and over, and they should not be taken for more than one week without speaking to a doctor. They are a night time pain relief medicine, not a treatment for sleeplessness on its own. Key Features Two actives in one tablet: paracetamol 500mg plus diphenhydramine hydrochloride 25mg. Made for bedtime pain: for headache, migraine, backache, muscle and rheumatic pain, toothache and period pain. Simple bedtime dose: 2 tablets with water, 20 minutes before bed. Maximum 2 tablets in 24 hours. Short-term use: for adults and children aged 16 and over, for no more than one week. Causes drowsiness: do not drive or use machinery, and avoid alcohol. How Panadol Night Works Panadol Night combines an analgesic with a sedating antihistamine, so it can ease pain and cause drowsiness at bedtime. Paracetamol is an analgesic (painkiller) and antipyretic (fever reducer). It is a weak inhibitor of prostaglandin production and may act more strongly in the central nervous system than in the rest of the body. Diphenhydramine hydrochloride is an H1 antihistamine. It competitively and reversibly blocks histamine at H1 receptors, and it has sedative and anticholinergic effects. In this tablet it is what causes the drowsiness. Together they are used for pain that keeps you awake. Used as directed, the tablets relieve pain and make you sleepy. Ingredients Active ingredients (per tablet): paracetamol 500mg, diphenhydramine hydrochloride 25mg. Other ingredients: maize starch, pregelatinised starch, potassium sorbate (E202), povidone, purified talc, stearic acid, carnauba wax. Pack: Panadol Night 500mg/25mg tablets, 20 tablets, in blister packs. How to Use Swallow 2 tablets with water, 20 minutes before you go to bed. Do not take more than 2 tablets in 24 hours, and do not repeat the dose. Do not take it if you have already had 4 doses of a paracetamol-containing medicine today, or any paracetamol-containing medicine in the last 4 hours. Do not use it for more than one week. If your bedtime pain lasts longer than a week, or a headache becomes persistent, see your doctor. Store below 25°C in a dry place. Keep out of the sight and reach of children, and do not use after the expiry date. Do not take Panadol Night if you: are under 16 have had an allergic reaction to paracetamol, diphenhydramine or any other ingredient have porphyria are pregnant or breastfeeding are taking another paracetamol-containing medicine, or another antihistamine-containing product (including skin products and cough and cold medicines) are caring for an elderly person with confusion, who should not be given it Ask your doctor or pharmacist first if you: have liver or kidney problems, regularly drink alcohol, or are underweight or malnourished have epilepsy, narrow-angle glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, or a blocked stomach or gut have difficulty passing urine or an enlarged prostate have asthma, bronchitis or COPD have an intolerance to some sugars are taking flucloxacillin, or have a severe infection or severe illness (there is a rare risk of a blood and fluid problem called metabolic acidosis) Medicines that can interact: tell your doctor or pharmacist if you take any of these. Antidepressants: MAOIs (including in the last 2 weeks), tricyclic antidepressants and venlafaxine Heart and blood pressure medicines: beta blockers such as metoprolol Stomach and travel sickness medicines: atropine, metoclopramide, domperidone, dicycloverine, hyoscine Colestyramine Medicines for anxiety or sleep, or any other medicine that causes drowsiness or dry mouth Warfarin or other anticoagulants, and other painkillers such as codeine Flucloxacillin Driving and alcohol: this medicine is meant to make you sleepy. Do not drive or operate machinery, and avoid alcohol. Too much paracetamol can cause delayed, serious liver damage. If you take too much, speak to a doctor at once, even if you feel well.
