Spread compound from the oiled area, coating the entire surface. Or crush compound into a paste with oil and brush on. Let it dry. 3. Place blade flat against strop, parallel to the surface. Pull backward with moderate pressure, 5‑8 strokes. （For V‑edge knives (leather knives, skiving knives, kitchen knives, etc.) 4. Rest blade spine against strop surface, roll along the curve toward the edge while pulling backward. The moment the edge contacts leather, lift straight up.
