Backpack Camp

The idea of a knife that can handle real camp chores, yet is made as light as necessary for carrying on a long trip has always appealed to me. The 80CRV2 blade was forged very close to shape, along with the blade bevels and hidden tang. Only minimal grinding was done to bring the convex edge together, while the forged texture remains everywhere else. The hidden tang is enclosed in a frame handle. The resulting knife has much less steel in the handle than a comparable full-tang knife. This not only reduces overall weight, but it moves the balance point forward making this compact knife a much better chopper than you would expect from a knife this size. The handle is black canvas micarta, secured with matching pins in such a way that all the handle pieces come together in a nearly seamless way. The sheath is a deep pouch, high-ride style in Dragonskin leather, for right-handed carry. Blade length: 7.1", Overall length: 12.25"
