The Hunt

Tom photographed this cheetah from ground level at Zimanga Private Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal — one of the first reserves in Africa built specifically around wildlife photography hides. The low perspective stretches the cheetah's lean, long-legged frame against a wash of soft blue sky and dry Zululand scrub. Blood on its muzzle and front legs tells the rest of the story: the fastest land animal, still cooling down from a successful chase. It's the kind of encounter that only happens at eye level — no vehicle, no distance, just the direct gaze of a predator with nothing between you and it.
