This month’s color way is inspired by something we dyed on a Twitch livestream a few years ago when trying to dye something ugly, and then… it wasn’t, ha. The result of messing around yielded a one of a kind yarn that looked a lot like a glazed piece of pottery, and I have made a few attempts at recreating that happy accident, with this one being the most recent iteration. If you recall with our Peacocking yarn, trying to chase a dye mop doesn’t always yield the outcome you hope it would and can feel like trying to capture LIGHTNING IN A BOTTLE, which is what we’re calling this yarn. Is it everything I hoped it would be? No, I’ll probably make some new attempts in the future! Do I like these weirdly specific challenges I accidentally make for myself? Absolutely! It’s almost like a writer’s prompt and encourages me to break out of what I’ve been doing, and sometimes, when you do it “wrong”, you create something else fun and new (like the test dye of this month, which gave less “clay glaze” and more “the smell of sunscreen”… maybe that one will appear next year)!
