Located deep within the Upper Assam Valley, Namsang tea estate is renowned for its lush natural surroundings and rich heritage. Established in 1837, it is one of the oldest tea gardens in the region, painstakingly carved out of dense tropical rainforest at the foothills of the eastern Himalayas. Situated between the Jaypore Protected Biosphere and the Burhi Dehing River, the estate enjoys a pristine, picturesque location that lends its high-grown Orthodox teas their distinctive flavor and aroma. The approach to Namsang is a journey through a vibrant ecosystem where orchids bloom high in the treetops and over 277 bird species fill the air with song. Below, leopards, Hollock Gibbons, and elephants move stealthily through the underbrush, making Namsang a rare intersection of tea cultivation and wildlife. Its slightly elevated location is ideal for producing top-quality teas, celebrated for their signature character. Acquired by Rossell Tea Company in 2012, the estate’s rich history is marked by Section No. 1 — the site of the first formal tea plantings in 1837, still commemorated by a marble monument. This enduring legacy, coupled with its breathtaking biodiversity, makes Namsang tea estate a living emblem of Assam’s proud tea heritage.
