Ron Carter's new and first-of-its-kind Jazz-Gospel hybrid album , deeply important to Mr. Carter as it is a tribute to his mother, Willie O. Carter, and is in many ways a lifetime in the making. The hymns on this album were songs Mr. Carter sang as a child, in church with his mother. Near the end of her life he wrote arrangements of those hymns for her to listen to.
