Reyneke Cornerstone 2021

The Cornerstone is a significant wine in the Reyneke range, reflecting our Cornerstone project that benefits our farmworkers and their families. It is composed of 58% Cabernet Franc and 42% Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are carefully hand-harvested and cooled overnight before being destemmed and sorted. Fermentation occurs in open-top concrete tanks. The Cabernet Sauvignon is aged in first-fill 225L French Oak barrels, while the Cabernet Franc matures in second and third fill 225L French Oak barrels. The wine is then aged for 18 months in oak. On the nose, the Cornerstone presents intense aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, tea leaf, tobacco and sandalwood. The palate is complex and layered, showcasing pure blackberry and black cherry fruit, with a graphite core and hints of cigar box. The wine is supported by lovely velvety tanins, a beautiful balance, and bright acidity, ensuring a lingering finish and impressive ageing potential.
