The Prime Barrel 11 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
The Prime Barrel’s mission has always been singular—seek out the finest whiskey possible. That pursuit has taken us deep into Kentucky’s most storied rickhouses and across the evolving landscape of American cooperage. This time, it led us back to a familiar heritage distillery—and one year further into possibility. This 11-Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon was originally distilled in June 2008 at a legendary Kentucky distillery and matured there until July 2018, when it was dumped and transferred into stainless transport totes during a period of bulk whiskey movement across the industry. Years later, the whiskey was acquired by one of our trusted partners, who preserved the lot with exceptional care until its next chapter could be realized. Rather than bottle immediately, we selected a single outstanding cask and re-barreled it into 48-month air-seasoned, toasted new American oak grown in Minnesota and coopered by Kelvin—an uncommon finishing approach designed to amplify structure, sweetness, and aromatic lift while honoring the bourbon’s mature Kentucky core. The result is not simply older—it is deeper, rounder, and more architecturally complete. A continuation of our inaugural Prime Barrel release, now given one additional year to evolve in rare northern oak. Tasting Experience Nose: Dark cherry compote, brûléed sugar, and vanilla bean rise from the glass, framed by toasted coconut, sandalwood, and antique oak. Denser and more confectioned than the 10-year. Palate: Silky and rounded entry unfolding into black cherry, maple candy, and caramelized sugar. The Kelvin oak contributes polished wood tannin and gentle baking spice, building mid-palate depth without overshadowing distillate character. Finish: Longer and more structured than its predecessor—cocoa nib, toasted pecan, and seasoned oak linger with drying elegance and faint pepper warmth. Barrel Details Distillery: Kentucky Heritage Distillery Distillery Mashbill: Undisclosed Distilled: June 2008 Dumped & Toted: July 2018 Acquired by Partner: Post-2018 (tote-preserved) Secondary Oak: 48-month cured, toasted new American Minnesota oak (Kelvin) — 12 months Bottled: 2026 Age: 11 years Proof: 102 (Cask Strength) This limited-edition Prime Barrel sequel demonstrates how great Kentucky bourbon can continue to evolve even after its initial maturation cycle. By returning a carefully preserved 2008 distillate to exceptional Minnesota oak, we extended both age and dimensionality—yielding a deeper fruit register, polished tannin structure, and longer finish than the original release. For collectors who followed the first chapter, this is its natural progression. For newcomers, it is a rare opportunity to experience mature heritage Kentucky bourbon refined through deliberate secondary aging.
