That is, the nature of fired clay is that only certain materials combine in ways that I feel work visually and practically. The best expression I've found is what Constantin Brancusi said almost 100 years ago: “Each material has its own life ... we must not try to make materials speak our language, we must go with them to the point where others will understand their language.”
