The Good The Bad The Ugly 1968 French Grande Film Poster, Jean Mascii
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly — released in France as Le Bon, La Brute et Le Truand — is Sergio Leone’s legendary 1966 spaghetti Western, starring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach in one of cinema’s most iconic trios. The third and final film in the celebrated Dollars Trilogy, following A Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More, it remains the definitive epic Western. The artwork looks superb on this first release French Grande, giving the film all the scale, drama and swagger it deserves. The poster was designed by Jean Mascii (1926–2003), the Italian-born French artist behind around 1,500 cinema posters. One of France’s great film poster designers, alongside names such as René Ferracci, Clément Hurel, Michel Landi and Boris Grinsson, Mascii began decorating cinema façades before creating his first posters in 1947. His bold, cinematic style made him one of the most prolific and recognisable poster artists of the post-war era.
