Jeanette Getrost’s work emerges from a deeply intuitive and meditative process, where objects—often drawn from life or archival imagery—serve as portals into larger emotional and spiritual ideas. These studies act as quiet channels, revealing the subtle presence and sacredness of seemingly ordinary forms. Clothing, particularly garments from the Victorian era, plays a central role in her practice, woven through her paintings like memory itself. To Getrost, these textiles carry an ancestral resonance—stories embedded in fiber, form, and silhouette. Working primarily in oil paint and soft pastel, she uses her materials to explore ephemeral states—moments where light flickers, clouds shift, and the veil between realms feels thin. Her practice is guided by inner dialogue, navigating the tension between light and shadow as a metaphor for the psyche’s own terrain. At times, visions arrive unannounced—phantoms of thought or emotion—that she transfers to canvas, treating the act of painting as both revelation and release.
