Vintage Red Beni Mguild Rug

Overview: This vintage Moroccan rug is a double-sided one-of-a-kind piece! With a warm background palette of reds and oranges, the tessellating diamond shapes shimmer in and out of focus. Diamonds are a common motif in Moroccan rugs. They're considered to be a powerful talisman that protects against the evil eye, so they are often found in Islamic art and architecture. Surprisingly, in this rug, you also find three random, black teapot symbols. While tea culture is such an important part of Moroccan life, in some ways it makes sense that a rug would carry an homage to this tradition. That being said, it's rare to find figural representation in Islamic art, so whenever you find clear objects woven into rugs, it's always feels like finding a hidden treasure! You can see the teapots clearer on the underside of the rug. Some Moroccan rugs, like this one, have a "summer side" and "winter side."
