Temp 26 to 28c The Licorice gourami (Parosphromenus species) is a small, freshwater fish with dark bodies highlighted by iridescent stripes or spots. Males show more vibrant colours, especially during breeding. They are shy, peaceful, and thrive in calm, structured aquariums. Size Typically 3–5 cm in length when fully grown. Origin Licorice gouramis originate from Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. They inhabit blackwater environments such as peat Water Parameters Temperature: 24–28°C pH: 3.5–6.5 (acidic) Hardness: Very soft (0–4 dGH) Water type: Tannin-stained, low mineral content. Care & Tank Setup Tank size: 20–40 litres Heavily planted with floating plants, leaf litter, and hiding spots is strongly recommended Water flow: Gentle Tank mates: Best kept with very small, peaceful species They are sensitive to stress, so avoid bright lighting, strong currents, and aggressive tank mates. Feeding Licorice gouramis prefer live or frozen foods such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and microworms. Some will not accept dry foods. Difficulty Level Advanced.
