The Loughborough Pair of Mid Century Walnut Veneer & Teak Bedside Cabinets

Stunning solid pair of Walnut and Beech Bedside Cabinets with a retro look, typical of maker Jacques Groag for Loughborough Furniture Company. This furniture maker was well known during the mid-century and often contracted in different makers to create new designs on their behalf. These functional units date from the Mid Century, potentially 1955 - 1960, and as such are well designed, useful and beautiful. Each piece features a cupboard compartment and a single drawer sitting on a stylish base in characterful polished wood; the moulded pull handles are iconic giving that classic retro feel; and I particularly love how the corners are slightly rounded rather than straight, this is much more stylised and a sign of good craftmanship, typical of Austrian designer, Groag. Overall the cabinets have a streamlined and contemporary feel, and would suit modern living whilst adding authentic character to your home, making a real statement in a bedroom or either side of the sofa. These are rare pieces and much sought after. The overall condition is good and they stand solid. These have been fully refinished to reveal a distinctive walnut grain veneer with a slightly contrasting teak trim. The surface has been replenished and protected with multiple coats of clear wood oil with a satin finish to add a slightly contrasting sheen to the patina. The interiors have also been cleaned and reoiled; to note one of the drawers has some marks and stains consumerate with age, however these are not on show and concealed inside.
