mid twentieth century as shown: 29" x 5 1/2" x 1 /2", 74 cm x 14 cm x 4 cm probably around 56 feet or 17 m This is a skein of about 12 strands or bundled indigo dyed cotton yarn as arranged in the configuration as shown here. It is a skein kasuri yarn that still still bears its tied-off parts which are seen here as yellow sections. These parts are tied tightly with yellow plastic filament in order to resist dye from touching the area that is bound by it. When untied, the area of yarn under the yellow binding will be white in color since it was prevented from being dyed when submerged in a dye vat. This is an interesting object, a teaching tool, or something wonderful to own as inspiration.
