The iron supplement I chose to stock after seeing the results in clinic. Iron supplementation isn't as simple as taking more iron. In clinic, I've seen first-hand that some people struggle to raise their iron stores despite supplementing — and just as importantly, many struggle to actually tolerate conventional iron supplements long enough to take them consistently. That is why I wanted to test Iconic Iron™ with my own clients before deciding whether it belonged in my clinic and in my range. The results are why I now stock it. Why I chose Iconic Iron™ Iconic Iron™ uses a plant-sourced ferritin iron from organic peas. Rather than delivering iron as a conventional free iron form, the iron is naturally encapsulated within a protein structure. This is particularly interesting when we're considering the gut. For some of my clients, conventional iron has been difficult to tolerate, with digestive discomfort making consistent supplementation challenging. I've also worked with clients where getting their iron status to respond has been far from straightforward, making the form of iron, absorption and the overall nutritional picture important considerations. With Iconic Iron™, I've found the gut tolerance to be a significant advantage. It's a lower-dose, food-sourced form of iron designed to be absorbed differently from many traditional iron supplements, without exposing the gut to the same amount of free iron during the absorption process. And for someone who has already struggled with their gut and with conventional iron, that matters. What I've seen in clinic This isn't a product I've added simply because I like the ingredient list. I've been testing it with clients and monitoring their blood results alongside a broader iron-support protocol. One of the things that has impressed me most is how quickly we've been able to see changes in some clients. In clients with longstanding low iron and anaemia, we've seen meaningful improvements when retesting after around two months of consistent supplementation. Results will always vary depending on the individual and, importantly, the reason their iron became depleted in the first place. But seeing iron markers respond in clients who had previously struggled has been incredibly encouraging. And just as importantly, the clients I've used it with have generally found it much gentler on the digestive system than the iron products they had previously tried. That combination — tolerability + a measurable response — is what made me want to partner with OnBlends and make Iconic Iron™ available through my clinic. Iron isn't just about the supplement This is where my approach differs from simply recommending an iron capsule. If your iron is low, I want to look at why. That can include dietary intake, menstrual blood loss, increased requirements, gut health, absorption, nutrient interactions and the way you're taking your supplements alongside food and other nutrients. I also provide guidance around compatible eating — looking at what you're eating and drinking around your iron supplement so that you're giving your body the best possible opportunity to absorb and utilise the nutrients you're providing. Because taking a supplement doesn't automatically mean you're absorbing everything in it. Getting more from less Iconic Iron™ provides 11 mg of elemental iron per capsule, alongside food-sourced cofactors including copper from sesame, beta-carotene from carrot, vitamin C from acerola and kiwifruit extract. The ferritin form of iron is the part I find particularly compelling. The iron is held within a protein structure, which helps protect it during the digestive process and allows the ferritin unit to be taken up at the gut wall. This is designed to reduce exposure to free iron in the gut — one of the reasons this form can be considerably gentler for people who don't tolerate conventional iron well. Who may benefit from Iconic Iron™? Iconic Iron™ may be worth considering if you: Have low iron or depleted iron stores Have struggled to increase your ferritin with previous supplementation Find conventional iron hard on your digestive system Experience constipation, nausea or stomach discomfort with traditional iron Have increased iron requirements Have menstrual blood loss Eat predominantly plant-based Train regularly or intensely Have previously stopped taking iron because you couldn't tolerate it It is not appropriate for everyone. It should not be used by people with haemochromatosis or conditions associated with iron overload, and anyone taking medication or managing a medical condition should discuss supplementation with their healthcare professional. My practitioner perspective I've worked with enough people struggling with low iron to know that the right iron supplement isn't necessarily the one with the biggest number on the label. For me, it comes down to form, tolerance, consistency, absorption and measurable results. After testing Iconic Iron™ with my clients and seeing both the tolerance and the changes in their blood results, I felt confident enough to bring it into my own range. This is an iron supplement I recommend because I've seen what it can do in practice — not simply because I sell it. Individual results vary. Iron deficiency and anaemia can have an underlying cause that requires investigation. Supplementation should form part of an individualised approach, with blood testing and healthcare-professional guidance where appropriate.
