Kids Clay Workshop: Critters & Crabs in Clay Workshop with Kay Manolas Children 7-12 years Dates: Monday 6 & 13 July Time: 10:30 am – 12:30 pm Come along for a playful clay adventure inspired by the fascinating creatures of the coast. In this imaginative workshop, children will sculpt curious crabs, whimsical sea critters and textured ocean-inspired creations with local ceramic artist Kay Manolas. Using soft stoneware clay, children will discover the joy of turning simple shapes into expressive sea creatures while exploring handbuilding techniques, texture and storytelling through clay. The session begins with children learning how to shape and construct forms by hand before adding details and bringing their coastal creatures to life. With Kay’s warm guidance, they’ll explore: • Handbuilding techniques to create playful sea creatures and sculptural forms • Rolling, shaping and joining clay pieces together • Using texture tools and found materials to create shells, scales, claws and ocean patterns • Sculpting small 3D details such as legs, eyes, fins and decorative elements • Personalising each creation with imaginative features and storytelling details The focus is on creative play, tactile exploration and discovering what clay can become through imagination and experimentation. Children are encouraged to create freely and enjoy the process in a relaxed and nurturing environment. Each child will leave with a unique clay artwork full of personality and inspired by the wonders of the ocean. Firing Option: Creations can be taken home unfired on the day, or left with us for professional kiln firing. Please allow one week for drying and firing. Finished pieces can be collected from Commonage Pottery or posted to your home for an additional fee. This workshop is perfect for children who love getting hands-on, exploring textures, inventing characters and creating with clay. Parents can: Relax and unwind in our wine lounge or enjoy a tasting in our cellar door. Sneak away for some “me-time!” Don’t worry, we’ll keep an eye on them! What to bring: • Clothes that can get a little dirty (think art shirts, old clothes, or an apron) • A water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the workshop • A yummy snack and/or lunch for longer classes All materials are included! Location: Commonage Pottery and Gallery at Happs Wines Venue, 575 Commonage Road, Dunsborough WA 6281.
