Visible Mending for Denim

Learn to Repair Your Favourite Jeans Date: Saturday 26th September Time: 2:30pm–5:30pm Give your favourite denim a new lease of life. This workshop is designed for those who are already confident using a sewing machine and would like to learn practical techniques for repairing and strengthening worn denim. It is not a beginner’s sewing class. Visible mending is the art of repairing clothing in a way that celebrates the repair rather than hiding it. Using a combination of machine stitching and traditional hand darning, you’ll learn how to create strong, long-lasting repairs that add character while extending the life of your clothes. During this hands-on workshop you’ll learn how to: Repair holes and tears in denim Reinforce worn areas before they become bigger problems Use machine stitching to create durable, professional-looking repairs Incorporate hand darning and decorative stitching to add both strength and personality Please bring one or two denim garments that need repairing—jeans, jackets, dungarees or shirts are all suitable. You’ll leave with newly repaired clothing, a range of techniques to use at home, and the confidence to keep your favourite denim in circulation for years to come. All tools and basic materials are provided. Please bring your own denim items to work on. As always at HUT on the Green, tea, coffee and biscuits are included. Places are limited to ensure plenty of individual support, so early booking is recommended.
