Untitled. Velvet and cotton. Yto Barrada was born in Paris in 1971 and grew up between France and Morocco. She works across film, photography, sculpture, and textiles. In 2006, she founded the Cinémathèque de Tanger, an independent cultural institution dedicated to cinema and public programmes. More recently, she initiated The Mothership, an eco-feminist residency and research initiative in Tangier described as “a place to conjure pan-African eco-feminist practices into being.” This year, Barrada represents the French Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Her work has been exhibited at institutions including Tate Modern in London, MoMA in New York, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and Kunsthaus Zürich. --- USA, 2022 ---
