That I was a bird and that I could go sailing all over the sky, high above everything." This 16 field 3-peghole animation drawing of Merlin was created for an endearing moment between the aging wizard and his plucky young student Wart in the 1963 film The Sword in the Stone. While the child stares out the now gaping hole in Merlin's tower and daydreams about turning into one of the birds flying nearby, Merlin immediately sees an opportunity. He carefully rises from his worn chair to sneak closer to the boy, using his wand to cast a spell that will turn Wart into a bird for his third lesson, making his dream come true. The drawing is rendered in graphite with color pencil and can be found near 57:15 as Merlin slowly turns, reaching for his wand.
