Intermediate Sewing - FPP Name Banners

Description: Conquer the mental challenge of learning Foundation Paper Piecing while making a name banner! This class will help demystify the FPP technique. You’ll also learn raw edge applique! We'll be using the pattern from the Ruby Star Society sampler quilt This is a fun skill builder class that will help you level up your sewing game. Together in class we’ll complete 3 letter blocks for your name banner. Skills Learned: - Foundation Paper piecing with out tracing or using a light box - Raw edge applique using Splendid Web and straight stitching You’ll Leave With: 3 completed blocks for your banner. We’ll send you home with templates for the remaining blocks and letters you’ll need to complete your banner at home. Banner blocks can be stitched together to make a mini quilt or turned into bunting. We’ll go over finishing steps before you leave. Class Duration: 3 hrs Students Bring: This is a great project for using fat quarters or scraps! Students will need to bring 3 fabrics, Background, Border, and Letters. A FQ of each will be more than enough for the blocks we'll complete in class. (Depending on how long of a name you are doing you may need more fabric.) The background and letter fabric should contrast for optimal readability. FPP can be a bit of a mind bender, solid fabrics are easier to work with as they do not have a wrong or right side. Students will also need thread that coordinates with their letter fabric. Materials Included with Registration: We’ll supply the paper templates for both the banner pieces and letters. Along with the splendid web for the applique. Our classroom is equipped with sewing machines and all the needed tools. If you would prefer to bring your own machine you are welcome to! Just let us know ahead of time. Skill Level: Intermediate Skill Details: This technique requires some precision and accurate sewing. Student should be comfortable maintaining a consistent seam allowance, understand terms like RST and WST, be comfortable using a rotary cutter and ruler, and overall be confident in using a sewing machine. Age Range: Our classes are designed for adults. Teens 16+ may attend with an adult who is also registered for the class. This class will be less of a social opportunity and focused more on growing your skills. Our classes are priced on a sliding scale. Use your annual household income as a guide to choose your adjusted price. The income levels provided are just a guideline.
