Walnut and Marble Dressing Table

A finely constructed French dressing table dating to the second half of the 19th century, executed in walnut with quarter-veneered panels and mounted with a rouge griotte marble top and matching gallery. The superstructure features an arched bevelled mirror plate framed by turned columns, scrolled side supports, and urn-form finials, surmounted by a carved foliate cartouche crest. The lower body houses two frieze drawers with recessed panels, raised on turned and fluted tapering legs headed by carved rosette blocks and joined by a shaped lower shelf. Blending Louis XVI structural discipline with the sculptural exuberance typical of the Napoleon III period, the piece displays quality cabinetry throughout, including book-matched veneer work and hand-carved detailing.
